Overview

A practical guide for traders and commission agents operating on the e-NAM electronic trading platform, covering licensing, quality-assaying obligations, and common disputes over grading and payment.

What You Need to Know

Frequently Asked Questions

Does an e-NAM registration replace the need for a state APMC trading licence?

No. E-NAM operates over the existing state APMC licensing framework; a trader generally needs both the underlying state/market committee trading licence and separate on-boarding onto the e-NAM platform.

What should a trader do if they dispute the assayed grade of a lot they won on e-NAM?

Raise the dispute through the specific market committee's grievance mechanism rather than refusing delivery or payment, since unilateral refusal can itself expose the trader to penalty independent of the underlying grading dispute.

How quickly must payment be made to a farmer-seller after an e-NAM purchase?

Typically within a short prescribed window set by the applicable state's operational rules (commonly around 24 hours), and delayed payment can be an independent ground for penalty against the trader.

References & Further Reading

This guide references the following statutes, rules and sources, cross-checked at the time of writing.

  1. e-NAM platform structure, licensing on-boarding process and payment-timeline norms: confirmed via multiple state APMC/e-NAM operational guideline sources at research time: verify the current payment window and licensing requirement for the specific state and mandi
  2. Continued applicability of the underlying state APMC statute to e-NAM transactions: well-settled, confirmed at research time
